The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, offering a level of Co. Kerry hospitality that extended well beyond Valentia itself. Every outing, no matter how far we roamed, ended with the same thought: we couldn’t wait to come home to Cul Cottage. As we explored the coastline steeped in legend, we found ourselves tracing the spirit of St. Brendan’s voyage — the very shores from which he is said to have set sail. Just across the bay lies Brandon Creek, and while Valentia isn’t named in the old tales or Christy Moore’s song, standing here it’s easy to believe this could have been part of his journey. Cul Cottage felt like the kind of place one might return to after such an odyssey — a quiet, welcoming haven at the edge of the world.
