Stonecliffe Cottage on Lake Huron | Cottage in Rogers City, MI

Stonecliffe is a storybook stone cottage built on Lake Huron in the 1930s. The 500-square foot interior is as charming as the exterior, with a lodge-like vaulted ceiling, stone fireplace, and expansive windows looking directly out on Lake Huron. Fine rustic and nautical furnishings complete the look. The cottage faces due north, affording views of both sunrise and sunset during the summer. Great Lakes freighters, fishing boats, stars (so many stars), and occasionally the northern lights may be viewed from the sandy beach. The soundscape includes loons, waves, and foghorns.

Our 7-day reservation periods run from Saturday to Saturday through mid-September. Three-night minimum until end of October when cottages closes.

KITCHEN: Fully-equipped with gas stove, fridge, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, pots/pans/mixing bowls, utensils, dishes, and table that seats 4.

GREAT ROOM: Stonecliffe's bluff setting and large windows create the interior effect of being on a ship looking out onto the water. The gas fireplace casts a cozy glow on chilly evenings. The TV picks up local stations.

BATHROOM: Unique subway tile and cobblestone shower, toilet, and small sink.

MASTER BEDROOM: Pocket door, DOUBLE/FULL bed with rustic headboard, dresser, and nautical mirror. Tall people (~6') be careful of your heads; the ceiling in here is low. Please note this is a double bed, not a queen size. Due to cozy quarters, the bed sits against the wall.

BEDROOM #2: Two twin beds, clothing hooks, and large chifferobe. Pocket door and vaulted ceiling.

Guests enjoy the entire 1/4-acre property, including picnic table, swing, lawn chairs, and charcoal grill. Beach is accessed via stone stairs down ~15' bluff. Width of beach varies from year to year based on lake water level and hour to hour based on wind/wave action.

Like other homes in the area, the water at the cottage has high iron content. Though the water is safe to drink, we drink bottled water while there and use it in the coffee maker. We cook with the well water.

Smoking, vaping, and outside fires prohibited. This is a smoke-free property in its entirety, outside and inside. Outside fires are not possible in 2023; our beach is returning after the high water in 2020-21 but there's not enough yet for a fire pit.

For optimal "get-away" mode, the cottage has no cable or internet service. If you want internet access during your stay, bring an AT&T cell phone or AT&T device with your hot spot activated. The area has cellular/LTE coverage through AT&T. If you have a cellular provider other than AT&T, please check on coverage availability prior to arrival or making a reservation. Verizon customers have reported there is no coverage at the cottage.

The cottage has no air conditioning. Numerous windows, ceiling fans, moderate Northern Michigan temperatures, and the lake breeze keep temperatures comfortable.

Dishes must be washed by hand. Laundromat available in Rogers City.

Electrical outlets by mirrors in bedrooms; no outlets in bathroom.

Cottage is on well/septic and has no sink garbage disposal. Guests agree to follow all house rules for proper disposal of food and hygiene items.

Disengage automatic front door lock before getting all excited and running out of the cottage at midnight to watch the stars. Not that I know anything about that.

Stonecliffe Cottage is located approximately seven miles north of Rogers City in a quiet neighborhood near Forty Mile Point Lighthouse. Thirty minute drive to Cheboygan, less than an hour to Mackinaw City and Petoskey. The cottage is on a dead-end street removed from Route 23 road noise. Like our neighbors' lots, ours is deep and narrow at 80 feet wide. There are homes on both sides of the cottage, though they are not intrusive (and our neighbors are wonderful!).
